If the App Says Your Account Could Not Be Created

Sometimes the desktop app does not take you to the next screen. It shows a message in your language, with the title This sign-in cannot continue or This account cannot use the desktop app. This page explains each message.

The app does not show more detail than it needs. For example, it does not tell other people whether an e-mail address has an account.

“This account cannot use the desktop app”

Section titled ““This account cannot use the desktop app””

Your account does not include the desktop app. Nothing is wrong with your address or your sign-in.

  • Sign in with a different address, or use the Trusted Codes app on your phone.
  • If the message says that an account was created for this address, the account exists but is not complete. Open the Trusted Codes app on your phone to finish the setup. If you opened an invitation link, the invitation waits for you there.

“This server accepts new accounts by invitation only”

Section titled ““This server accepts new accounts by invitation only””

This server does not create accounts for people who find it on their own. Ask the person or the organisation that runs it for an invitation. Open the invitation link they send you.

“There is no account for this sign-in yet”

Section titled ““There is no account for this sign-in yet””

Create the account in the Trusted Codes app on your phone first. Then sign in on the computer.

The app needs proof that the address is yours. Open the link in the e-mail that we sent you, then try again. Use the newest e-mail. An older link may no longer work.

“Please sign in with exactly the email address the invitation was sent to”

Section titled ““Please sign in with exactly the email address the invitation was sent to””

An invitation belongs to one address. Sign in with that address. If you need to use a different address, ask the person who invited you.

“This email address already belongs to an account”

Section titled ““This email address already belongs to an account””

Sign in the way you usually sign in to that account. For example, use the same provider as before.

“This account now signs in with another provider”

Section titled ““This account now signs in with another provider””

Your account uses a sign-in provider, and the message names it. Use that sign-in.

“Your sign-in provider has not confirmed this email address”

Section titled ““Your sign-in provider has not confirmed this email address””

The provider has not confirmed the address to us, so we cannot connect it to your existing account. Sign in the way you did before.

“We cannot create an account with this email address”

Section titled ““We cannot create an account with this email address””

Use a different address, or contact support.

“Your account could not be set up right now”

Section titled ““Your account could not be set up right now””

This is a temporary fault. Wait a few minutes and try again. If it continues, contact support.

Select Use a different address and try again. If the message comes back with an address that should work, contact support. Say which message you saw.
